About the ASC Team

ASC has a management team that possesses specialist skills in a variety of medical fields including asthma, allergic diseases, and occupational health.

Dr Bruce Mitchell,
Executive Chairman and Co-Founder

Dr Mitchell is co-founder and executive chairman of ASC. Dr Bruce Mitchell, Medical Chairman

Dr Mitchell is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, the Royal College of Physicians in Canada and is a diplomat of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is a director of the Immunology Laboratory, Blackrock Clinic and a past President of the Allergy Foundation of Ireland. He has been a member of the WHO sponsored International Workshop on Dust Mite Allergy. Dr Mitchell has extensive business experience within the allergy and asthma specialties and is also co-founder of Mitest Limited a manufacturer of a patented dust collection device that is distributed internationally. Dr Mitchell practices at the Blackrock Clinic as a Consultant Physician and Clinical Immunologist.

 

Caitriona O’ Donovan
Programme Manager - health friendly air™

Caitriona has responsibility for the sales and marketing of our health friendly air™ programme to the homes and business market. Caitriona has spent all of her career working in the healthcare sector. Originally a nurse, she then went on to complete a post graduate in Occupational Health and Hygiene and worked as an Occupational Health Adviser for the safety critical industry in London.

She then returned to Ireland and in addition to completing a diploma in sales and management, worked with BUPA Ireland where she was instrumental in the setting up of the Health @ Work business which went on to become a leading provider of wellness programmes to the corporate sector in Ireland. Caitriona is considered a well established expert in corporate wellbeing programmes and has been an invited guest speaker regarding Occupational Health and Wellness programmes at various business events such as the Chamber Of Commerce, the CIPD and on live radio.

 

Ruairí Ward
Occupational Hygienist - health friendly air™

Ruairí has responsibility for the occupational hygiene and workplace environmental monitoring for the health friendly air™ programme. He conducts the field surveillance and develops tailored sampling strategies which enables him to carry out indoor air monitoring as part of the health friendly air™ certification process.

Ruairí is a science graduate from the National University of Ireland Galway. After originally working in the I.T. industry he went on to complete a Higher Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and worked as a Health and Safety Advisor for the Johnson & Johnson in Ringaskiddy Cork. Further postgraduate study in the area of Occupational Hygiene ensued allowing Ruairí to undertake a role as Occupational Hygienist for Eli Lilly in Cork.

 

Angela Southey PhD
Scientific Officer

Angela is the Technical Manager for ASC. She has overall responsibility for the running and operation of our analytical laboratory as well as the day to day management of ongoing projects.

Angela qualified with a BSc. in Microbiology from UCC, before going on to complete a PhD in Lung Fibrosis in UCD.  After two years in Japan working on Ulcerative Colitis she returned to Ireland to take up a position in the Veterinary College, UCD, working on TB in badgers and cattle. 

She subsequently worked in Laois County Council in Water Quality and then moved to The Irish Equine Centre where she worked in viral diagnostics. From here Angela moved into industry, where she spent two years in Wyeth Biopharma developing Virology Screening Methodology. Angela subsequently spent 2 and a half years Abbott Diagnostics where she worked as a Technical Specialist in Immunodiagnostics, before joining ASC.

 

Dr John McKeon,
Co-Founder and Managing Director

John is a medical doctor and holds a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

John was awarded a position on a National Business Incubation Programme in January 2001 and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in new business development.

John was awarded the ‘Lead Entrepreneur Award’  by the Irish Prime Minister while participating in the biotechnology business incubator program in 2002. He also received funding from the national enterprise body Enterprise Ireland.

John has been profiled in several business publications including the Irish Entrepreneur magazine. He has had several publications in Emergency Medicine journals such as 'Injury'.

 

John Carroll FCA

John Carroll FCA trained as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young, Dublin and has more than fifteen years post qualification experience in a range of sectors. He has a broad knowledge of licensing gained as a result of his roles as a record company CFO and founder and Financial Director of DP Music Limited, a successful music publishing company.

 

 

 

Andrea Richardson
Programme Executive

Andrea originally came from a journalism and PR background, however her post-college experience varied from time in corporate environments, different sectors of the entertainment industry to a broad range of sales roles. An extended time in London followed where she worked as a PA within the music industry, during this time she also acquired the position of Marketing Assistant. When she made the move back to Dublin she joined the ASL team, taking up a role that continues to fulfil her fondness of diversity.
